“Bootcamp” can sound like shouting drill sergeants and people being sick in a field. A good coached bootcamp is nothing like that. Here’s what a session at FSP Fitness in Peldon involves, and why it suits complete beginners as well as regulars.
What is a bootcamp class?
A bootcamp is a circuit workout. You move between short bursts of different exercises, with a coach running the session from start to finish. Bootcamp is FSP’s premier class, mixing indoor and outdoor circuits using:
- bodyweight exercises
- cardio machines
- dumbbells and barbells
- battle ropes and power bags
The aim is to burn calories, build a stronger, leaner body, and build mental toughness along the way.
What happens in a session
Each bootcamp lasts 60 minutes and is coached from start to finish. You don’t need to plan anything or know any exercises beforehand. Your coach explains each station, shows you how to do it properly, and keeps an eye on your technique throughout, whether you’re working indoors or outside.

“Will I be able to keep up?”
Almost everyone asks this, and the answer is yes. Every exercise can be adjusted to your current level. If you’re new, your coach gives you a version you can do well. If you’re fitter, they make it harder. Everyone works hard, but nobody is left behind. You don’t need to be fit to start. You just need to turn up.
Why a small group makes a difference
Many bootcamps are big classes in a park or a leisure centre hall. At FSP, classes are capped at 10 people. That means:
- Your coach actually sees you. They correct your form and adjust exercises for you, not just for the room.
- You’re missed if you don’t show up. The coach and the group notice, and that accountability keeps most people going.
- The group is supportive. Members push each other on and celebrate progress together.
Because places are limited, sessions can fill up, especially in the evenings.
